First EucharistFirst Eucharist Preparation for First Eucharist (First Communion) normally takes place when a child is in second grade, although older children may be enrolled in the program upon parent request.
Children in the second grade are automatically registered for the First Eucharist preparation program when they are registered in the parish’s weekly K-8 Faith Formation program.
First Eucharist preparation takes place through family sessions held monthly from January through April; children attend these sessions with their parent(s) or another responsible adult. The preparation sessions are primarily parent-led and include group activities and adult faith formation components.
First Eucharist is celebrated in late April or early May. In order to celebrate their First Eucharist, children need to participate regularly in the weekly faith formation program, attend the sacramental preparation sessions, and have previously celebrated the sacraments of Baptism and Reconciliation.
